  • Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, set up in 1935, originally called Central Hydraulic Research Institute, is the oldest of its kind in China. The Institute was designated by the Chinese Government as one of the national non-profit research institutions for public service in 2001. NHRI is a multipurpose national hydraulic research complex, mainly dedicated to basic research, applied research and technological development, and undertaking directional, principal and comprehensive researches for water conservancy, hydropower and waterway transportation as well as researches on soft science and macro decision making. At the same time, the institute acts as the Dam Safety Management Center, the Research Center for Climate Change, the Engineering Quality Inspection Center and the Nanjing Engineering Measurement Examination Center of the Ministry of Water Resources. For more than 80 years of development, marching toward the world front of water-related sciences, the institute has become a national research complex specialized in more than 50 research orientations with unique and strong expertise.
  • Yangtze Institute for Conservation & Development ,set up in 2019, was jointly established by Hohai University, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Jiangsu development & Reform Commission, and participated in the construction by Nanjing Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jiangsu provincial strategy and Development Research Center, Shanghai Investigation, Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd., Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute of Water Conservancy Commission, Jiangsu Yangtze River Economic belt Research Institute, and Changjiang Institute of Survey, Planning, Design and Research. The strategic positioning of the Yangtze Institute for Conservation & Development is as follows: to meet the major national strategic needs of the Yangtze River Protection and green development, and build a high-level think tank for river basin protection and green development to serve the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Aiming at the international scientific and technological frontier, connecting the national innovation and development strategy, integrating the advantages of scientific research platform, gathering human resources, and strengthening basic research and scientific and technological development. To strengthen the combination of production, teaching, research and application, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and support the high-quality and sustainable development of the basin economy and society.
